When I came across this classic cocktail I knew it would be a perfect fit for spooky season! As we approach Halloween our reading habits tend towards vampires, ghosts, and zombies—all entities that have been revived in some way.
So let me introduce you to the Corpse Reviver No. 2 cocktail!
There is a series of Corpse Reviver cocktails (hence the number in the name), but each one is meant to cure a hangover. The recipe below for "number 2" is widely considered the tastiest in the Corpse Reviver cocktail series.
3/4 oz. gin
3/4 oz. Cointreau or Triple Sec
3/4 oz. Lillet Blanc
3/4 oz. fresh lemon juice
1 or 2 dashes Absinthe
Pour measured ingredients into a shaker over ice, shake, and strain into a cocktail glass.
If you are feeling fancy, garnish with an orange peel.
I had never tried Absinthe before, but for a cocktail that claims to bring back the dead this has quite the refreshing taste.
It would be perfect to sip with some savoury nibbles and a good book!
